The IT Hub & Lifeline of the City – 

The 30-kilometre stretch of the OMR from Madhya Kailash in Adyar to Siruseri Information Technology Park in the south, hailed as the IT Corridor of Chennai, is one of the most thriving stretch, housing some of the world’s biggest IT Hubs and firms. The largest IT Park in Asia, SIPCOT IT Park, and other major IT hubs like CyberTek IT Park, ETL Infrastructure – Chennai One, ASV Suntech Park,  Prince Infocity,  ETA Ascon – (ETA Tech Park-SEZ),  Ascendas IT Park, TRIL Ramanujam IT Park, have been established along the OMR due to the Government’s focused effort to attract the major IT players in setting up their offices with special allowances in the SEZs. Leading giants in the IT sector like CTS, Polaris,  TCS, Capgemini, Accenture operate in these facilities employing around 5+ Lakhs IT professionals in this part of the city.  

To encourage the establishment of IT organisations and also  to facilitate the numerous professionals working in this part of the city, there has been focused effort from the government to improve the infrastructure, transportation and the liveability index of this part of the city owning to which OMR has been transformed in to the Lifeline of the city. 

Seamless connectivity with Futuristic planning

To ably support the IT establishments along OMR and to improve the transportation and ease the traffic, there has been a focused effort to enhance the connectivity of this place. OMR’s IT expressway connects it to several locations in Chennai and nearby areas. 

  • The recent infrastructural developments in OMR  include the construction of phase II of Chennai Metro Railways connecting Madhavaram to SIPCOT.  
  • The State government has proposed a two-phase elevated corridor along the OMR, running from Taramani to Siruseri in Phase I and Siruseri to Mahabalipuram in Phase II. 
  • A road project connecting four National Highways (NH5, NH205, NH4, and NH45) and eight state highways is set to accelerate smooth connectivity.
  • The OMR runs parallel to East Coast Road (ECR) and enables a convenient travel to locations outside the city boundaries. The Thoraipakkam–Pallavaram radial road, the Maraimalai-Adigal Bridge and the Medavakkam-Karapakkam Road, improve connectivity from the OMR.
